Zion History & Links
Weeping Rock Trail is higher and deeper into Zion Canyon than the Grotto or Emerald
Trails. The park operates natural gas powered shuttle buses which run about 18 hours daily.
To reach the Weeping Rock Trail Head one must take the shuttle. Going back into the canyon
is really breathtaking. It is amazing, when one contrasts the surrounding desert and flat plains
seen on the way to Zion, with what is present in the canyons that you are literally astonished.
The canyon floors and valley bottoms, of varying heights above sea level. are home to the
source of life here: water.
The Virgin River flows through Zion with several tributaries. One quickly learns that it is
fairly easy to find the river or its tributaries; just look for vegetation. Both deciduous and
conifer plant species live in the canyons. As well, there are quite a few amphibians. The
Collared Lizard makes his home here and is native to this area.
