The Grotto Trial is accessible just north of Zion Canyon Lodge. It is one of the shorter and
less strenuous hiking trails. Naturally, I was quick to agree to go on this one!
Sean immediately spotted a Mule Deer, which we photographed. We then walked across an
expanse of very dry land to the nearest mountains and cliffs. Teresa proceeded to climb atop
one of the cliffs and managed to get down without incurring any injury. This area is fairly
wooded, primarily with conifers.
There are wild turkeys, humming birds, song birds, ravens, hawks and peregrine falcons in
this area. Across the road from this trail is the Emerald Pool Trail.
